Dad has Parkinson’s tremors. Could a GrandPad help?

Dear Live Grand:

My dad has Parkinson’s disease that affects both his body and mind, so we’re looking for some way that can help him enjoy the music he thrived on in the 70s. Unfortunately, most electronic players are tiny and hard for him to manage with his tremors. Could a GrandPad be an option? Is there a large selection of music available? What else on this tablet might he be able to use and enjoy? – AY

Dear AY:

GrandPads are made for people with challenges like your dad's. The tablets are large and sturdy enough to feel good in the hands, and the included case provides extra grip. GrandPad’s are charged by placing them in their own cradle so your dad wouldn’t have to worry about connecting tiny cords. Apps and navigation arrows are all large, and the sensitivity is set to work well with the dryer skin of older adults. There’s also a sturdy stylus included so he could try both ways to see what he finds easiest.

The Music app includes access to more than 30 million songs from a wide variety of musical genres. To begin with, your dad would want to check out the 70s option within the app. Of course, once he started listening, he’d probably want to try the 60s and 80s options as well. He could choose from country music, rock, classic R&B, jazz, and more. While he’s listening, he’d enjoy building his own Music Collection so he could have his personal mix at his fingertips. Adding a song takes just one tap.

He'd have fun with the Radio app, too. There are pre-sets stations like GrandPad Radio offering music and talk, as well as others that focus on a variety of music such as country or rock. If your dad has a favorite station, the family admin could add that option, as well.

There's much more for him to love, though, starting with the Photos app. The family admin could upload family photos for him to view or share with friends.

He’d be able to enjoy easy video/audio chats with the people who are added to his Contacts. One tap on the large Answer button is all that it takes, and calling is just as easy.

Most people enjoy games. Within GrandPad’s Games app he could play poker or slots, do crosswords or Sudoku, fun games like four-in-a-row, or our memory game. Within the Articles app, he’d find options for history, news, gardening, space exploration, and all sorts of fun topics. He could build a collection there, too, if he chooses.

The tablet can be pre-loaded and made ready for him from the start. Should he have any questions, he could tap the nice, large HELP icon and he’d soon be speaking live to his own representative. Help is available 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Your Dad’s Parkinson’s shouldn’t be allowed to keep your dad from his music or his friends, AY. A GrandPad could enable him to stay connected.
