Mom loves competitive games, but her circle of friends has dwindled

Dear Live Grand:

My super competitive mom, age 87, hasn’t taken aging gracefully. Even though she has mild memory problems her mind is still active, as is her competitive spirit. She used to love card games or basically any game where she could compete with her friends. Unfortunately, now most of those ladies’ health is poor or they have passed on. Mom was never computer savvy so we tried a simple children’s tablet with some games because we thought it might give her something to do. In hindsight that wasn’t smart since she was insulted but we just wanted to help. Would a GrandPad make sense for her? – PE

Dear PE:

It’s wonderful to hear how determined your mom is to keep challenging herself. You were trying hard so give yourself credit for your diligence, but your mom needs a tablet made for adults – specifically older adults.

The GrandPad tablet is loaded with options to challenge someone like your mom. In fact, we think that owning a GrandPad would be just the ticket to keep her competitive spirit satisfied.

Since she loves games, we’ll expand on what’s available within the Games app first.  She could play bridge or solitaire, Poker or Texas Hold’em, Blackjack or slots, as well as word scramble, crosswords, bingo, and more. The most challenging games have training videos that are particularly helpful for beginners.

What’s more, GrandPad offers game nights each week with tournaments every other week! Prizes are awarded for most games played and most games won with a random participation prize, too. This is something our users get very involved in and love to do. Your mom could feed her need to compete with no worries about who she’d play against.

While we’ve offered some details about the Games app because of your mom’s interests, there’s just so much more that could entertain her.

Nearly everyone enjoys at least some type of music. Your mom could choose anything from classical to country to jazz to big band to music that encourages relaxation. She could create her own Music Collection and even have her choice of music in the background as she plays games.

If she just wants to relax there’s the Moods app, where she could choose an option that focuses on animals, nature, or ambiance such as a burning fireplace or a soothing rainfall. All have associated sounds that can calm or bring smiles.

We saved one of the best features for last, PE. Once the family admin adds your mom’s friends and family members to her contacts list, she could receive videos calls from them simply by touching Answer, and she could call people just as easily. She could participate in Zoom calls, send and receive emails, and view family photos and videos.

There’s ever so much more to discover about the GrandPad, which alone should spark her feeling of competition. The tablet would also help her retain her dignity when around electronics because the more she used it the more confidence she’d gain.
