Mom with memory loss taught art history and loves making art

Dear Live Grand:

My mom moved to assisted living due to early memory loss. She taught college art history so it’s no mystery that she loves making art during their weekly art sessions. They even let her teach a little. She’s quite content and takes part in other activities, as well, but we are trying to find a way for her to enjoy visual access to art and artists. Maybe it’s asking too much of any device made for older adults to be that versatile, but we’re wondering if a GrandPad could support this passion of hers. – WO

Dear WO:

Like music, art has been shown to be an enjoyable method of maintaining brain health. The fact that your mom can both participate and teach in the facility’s art activities is wonderful! We’re happy to say that the GrandPad tablet offers great versatility and would not only support and enhance her interest in art and artists but offer other types of entertainment, too.

For example, GrandPad’s safe Internet app would allow her to access YouTube where she could view videos showing historic art along with many newer works. She could also research the history of well-known pieces through a general Internet search or Wikipedia. Then there are the pre-set options within the app, particularly Growing Bolder and Next Avenue which offer articles and even podcasts featuring art and artists.

Should your mom forget how to do a search or play a game – or anything else for that matter – she could just tap the nice, big Help icon and a live person would chat with her. These friendly, engaged people are there around the clock to enhance our GrandPad users’ experience.

Nearly everyone enjoys a video/audio call with family and close friends and with a GrandPad, these are a snap. All your mom would need to do is touch Answer and she’d be connected. It’s just as easy for her to place a call. She needn’t worry about spam calls or unwanted emails because the only people contacting her are those the family admin adds to her list.

We all love photos from the past as well as being kept current with what’s going on in the lives of people we love. The GrandPad Photos app would allow your mom to view images and videos uploaded by her family any time she wants.

Whether or not your mom has enjoyed games in the past we’re pretty sure she’ll find something within the Games app that would appeal to her now. She could do crosswords or play solitaire, bridge, or hearts. The memory game allows players to choose their level of play so they can start on the easy setting while they learn and then increase the difficulty if they choose. GrandPad also offers game nights along with tournaments and prizes.

We’re pleased to hear that your mom is reasonably content right now, but it’s satisfying for us to know that her life could be made much more interesting with a GrandPad.
