Nephew wants his mechanical uncle to enjoy life more

Dear Live Grand:

I was raised by a loving uncle who’s a retired mechanic. In his teens and 20s, he played drums in a rock band, and his other interests are poker and local weather. Many of his friends have passed on or are ill so he feels kind of lost. He adores my children, so I know he’d love video calls from them but he’s not into computers, smartphones, or tablets. Someone told me that he’d be able to use a GrandPad. What do you think? – DK

Dear DK:

Your uncle sounds like a very special man. We’re delighted to say that a GrandPad could be the perfect device to keep him connected to family and friends as well as enable him to enjoy other activities that could not only bring back great memories but create new ones.

The fact that he was a rock drummer caught our eye. Within the GrandPad Music app, he would find options for classic rock as well as music by the decade, so whether his favorites are from the 50s, 60s, or 70s, he’d just tap the button and listen. He could build his own playlist by tapping Add to Collection, mixing up the decades and styles if he likes.

The Radio app would be perfect for him, too. The GrandPad Radio option offers music and talk, and Radio Recliner offers shows hosted by DJs of your uncle’s generation. Listeners get to call in requests and tell stories. There’s also a classic rock pre-set, though the family admin could add whatever radio stations your uncle likes.

He’d have fun using GrandPad’s safe Internet app to access YouTube for videos featuring drummers and rock concerts. He could even use this option for videos about car engines and other interests.

The Games app would not only allow him to play Blackjack and Texas Hold’em, but slots, Free Cell, a memory game, tic-tac-toe, and more.

When it comes to visiting with your kids, your uncle would have a ball. Once the family admin adds family members and friends to his Contacts, they could easily call him. When someone calls him, their image shows up on his screen, he’d click Answer, and that’s it. They’d be engaged in a video/audio call. What’s more, he could call them just as easily.

The GrandPad features a convenient Toolbox with a magnifier, flashlight, and calculator. There’s also a Help button where with one tap he could place a call that would be quickly responded to by a friendly voice asking how they can help.

The Weather app would show not only his weather but that of his contacts. If he’d like a local weather radio station added to his GrandPad Radio app, the family admin could easily do that for him.

We’re sure that your uncle would gain important benefits from a GrandPad, DK. The tablet would not only support his interests but expand them by introducing him to the wonder of this unique technology made just for older adults.
